NewJeans Forced to Drop 'NJZ' Name and Suspend Promotions Following Court Decision.

K-pop girl group NewJeans has undergone a significant change in their online identity, sparking widespread attention from fans and industry insiders alike. On April 4, the group renamed its official social media accounts from NJZ to mhdhh_friends, and in a surprising move, deleted all previous posts, Another affiliated account, widely believed to be operated by the members' parents, was also changed to mhdhh_pr.

The new username “mhdhh” appears to be an acronym formed by the first letters of the members' names: Minji (M), Hanni (H), Danielle (D), Haerin (H), and Hyein (H), a subtle but meaningful nod to their original identity.

This change comes in the wake of a tumultuous legal battle between the members and their former agency, ADOR, a subsidiary of HYBE. In November 2024, all five members announced the termination of their exclusive contracts, citing multiple breaches and a loss of trust in the label's leadership. Since then, they had been promoting independently under the new name NJZ, hoping to continue their careers outside of ADOR's control.

However, ADOR quickly responded with a lawsuit, arguing the contracts were still valid and filing for an injunction to stop the group from using the name NJZ, engaging in solo promotions, or signing their own endorsement deals.

The group’s decision to terminate the contracts stemmed from 11 critical reasons, which included the sudden disappearance of former CEO Min Hee Jin, an internal HYBE report stating “We can just drop ‘New’ and start over,” and former HYBE CEO Park Ji Won allegedly saying he would give NewJeans a long vacation, hinting at sidelining the group altogether.

Despite these serious claims, the court ultimately ruled in favor of ADOR last month, granting all of the company’s injunctions. This legal win effectively stripped the members of their ability to continue any independent activity, including the use of the NJZ name.

As a result, NewJeans has officially suspended all promotions, and the future of their activities remains uncertain. Fans are now left wondering what will come next for the beloved group, especially as their loyal following continues to support them through the storm.
